mendacious

1. Lying; untruthful: a mendacious child. 2. False; untrue

This is word 3 of 3 from a Maureen Dowd editorial in the New York Times.
The synonym note for dishonest in the American Heritage Dictionary explains that “Mendacious is more formal than lying, and suggests a chronic inclination toward untruth.”
