Some of the smaller plants along the forest floor were just as impressive to me as the towering redwood trees above.

I’m probably not the first person to notice this, but your 5/8/05 fern picture actually shows horsetails (Equisetum). Botanically, horsetails are considered one of the “fern allies” but are not related to ferns.
