Spider on Finger

Spider on Finger

Ben found a neon green spider in the back yard the other day, so I ran and grabbed my camera to preserve the moment.

Sorry Karl, but I find this subject completely disgusting . ( That may just be the arachnaphobia speaking)I am sure that from a photographer’s viewpoint is is an amazing showcase of talant– but I still find it repulsive!

I think its a decent photo. It’s a bit blurry but besides that I like the spider, not so often you see spiders that color, and it makes the creature look so fragile and delicate compared to the finger tip it hangs on.

  3. Karl says:

Thanks for the comment, J. The blur certainly is a problem with this photo. With such a wide aperture on a macro lens, it’s incredibly hard to get a clean shot when there is any kind of movement at all. Actually, one of the spider’s legs is in focus, but its body isn’t, and that’s a shame. If I had moved my camera forward a fraction of an inch, I could have caught it. Oh well. Next time.

wow – all I know is that I would NEVER have a spider crawling around on my finger. I would flick that sucker off so fast, you wouldn’t even have been able to take the shot – 🙂 nice macro shot, tho.

    hi karl –
i like the blur – it’s what makes this a less scary photo to me! i am afraid of spiders, but also find them fascinating and sometimes beautiful. i have an amazing spider photo of my own that i took on vacation a few years ago. jim scared the life nearly out of me while i was staring at it, but the photo is really cool. so i can appreciate this, blur and all.

that is an amazing photo! any idea what type of spider it is? i currently have one that i think is the same on my sink- i think it came in with some flowers i picked, but i can’t find what sort it is anywhere. keep up the awsome photography anyway!

  8. Karl says:

Thanks, Franny. Unfortunately, I have no idea what type of spider it is. If you find out, I’d love to know!

This looks very much like a crab spider. They come in several “neon” colors and are very common. Also not harmful to humans without alergy. Nice photo as well, like the blur effect focusing on spider.

That is so cool and my mom saw one of those on her car. So she poked it with her keys and it attacked them. It made me lol. My cat will eat a spider if it sees one. It is really weird.

I think it is a beautiful photo. The spider is called a Crab Spider, of which there are some 2000 known species, 200 of which are located in North America. They have a wide variety of colors, and they do not spin webs or trap their prey. Instead they rely on their color for camoflauge and wait food to come to them. They of course are not poisonus to humans, though I am still in awe someone had the courage to hold one.

We call them Mt. Dew spiders… I’ll run our property on my 4 wheeler and by the time I get done, there will 4 – 5 of them on my ATV… completely harmless, as fare as I can tell…

I have found a spider kinda like that. The one I had found is neon green colored, had a bigger butt, and smaller than the one in the picture. I have been looking up on the internet for days trying to find it and haven’t found the name of it, or if it is poison or not. I had found it in my kitchen cabinet. If anyone knows what it could be, please e-mail me at melissa.may85@yahoo.com.
    Thank you!

    Karl,
I also like to say that that is brave to have a spider on your finger. Did you know what it was before or after you found out what it was?

  16. Shannon says:

The other day i found a green spider similar to the one on the finger, I’m not quite sure if its poisonous or not. i found it in my back yard on a trash can. I’m very scared of spiders. but this spider that i found seemed harmless. if i see a spider i just kill them, Because i hate spiders so much. But the photo is amazing. Nice blur perfection.

  17. Sara says:

That is a good photo. I wishi had the courage to have a spider hang from my finger! I have seen MANY of those spiders in my yard and I can’t seem to find the name of it!

  18. Meggan says:

I like this picture. It brings the spider out 🙂

  19. Meggan says:

We cought one of these today, and are curious about what type of spider this is. Ours is just like this one, but with a black v on its body.
