For Sale: Panasonic PV-GS65 Digital Video Camcorder

I had a nice, tiny Sony DV camcorder for a while, but last summer it mysteriously disappeared. I searched all over, waited for it to rematerialize, and after months of missing the chance to record my cute kids doing cute things, gave up and bought a new one, the Panasonic PV-GS65 Digital Video Camcorder. Two months after it arrived in the mail, I found the first one deep inside an old backpack that I don’t use very much—just one more example of what my wife lovingly refers to as my male-patterned blindness.

So now we’re in the embarrassing position of having two digital camcorders. Sara suggested we sell the new one on eBay, since it’s too late to return it to amazon.com, but eBay is too big and scary and bewildering for me. Instead, I’m going to conduct a little experiment and see if I can sell the camcorder right here.

We’ve only used the Panasonic PV-GS65 two or three times, and we still have the original box and everything that came along with it. It has some fancy features, including a 3-CCD sensor, whatever that means. I bought it from amazon.com on October 26, 2005, for $522.94. There’s only one for sale there now, a refurbished model going for $421. I’d be happy to sell ours for less.

Interested? Name a price. Send me an email (you may use the contact form, if you wish). I’ll keep the offer open for five days. Then the highest bidder will get it. If that bidder flakes out, it’ll go to the next highest, and so on.

If nobody bids, well, then I guess I’ll just have to muster up some courage and head over to eBayland.

Please don’t be insulted, Karl, but since I don’t really want or need it but would like to see your experiment succeed, I’ll start the bidding at 100 bucks

  2. michelle says:

Hey! I always knew I’d regret not getting video of my precious boy. Why don’t you sell the old one (I would bid on that one, if it went for less!) and throw in lessons! ;-)

  3. nicole says:

Hmmm…not really in need of one of these, but I am in the market for a treadmilll, so any time you feel the need to sell THAT, let me know…
    Best of luck…
    Nicole

  4. Karl says:

Thanks for the opening bid, Dad! Michelle, the old one is not for sale. If it were, I’d sell it for more than the newer one. Besides, it’s not really that old. Nicole, try eBay. :)

We bought our last digital camera with the requirement that it have acceptable quality video as well, so I don’t need it either.
But if e-bay really is the big, scary, I could advertise for you in Calvin Deals (or you could, if you have an alumni account; just find your way to the Calvin Deals board in KnightVision). Or you could use IDrop and lose a bit on commission. I’ve only seen them driving by on 29th, so this is not a recommendation, just something to check out.

now i’ve heard everything – you, karl, techno-wiz…….afraid of ebay?!!?? egads!!!! even i can navigate both the buying and selling, and remember, you were kind of making fun of me at brooke’s wedding (the whole limewire thing). anyway, i’m not in the market for the camera, however, that doesn’t stop me from wanting it!!!
good idea, to try it here first….then, go sink your teeth into ebay, it’s pretty fun.
BTW, what does this mean? Build error in template ‘Comment Preview Template’: Error in tag: You used an ‘MTCommentDate’ tag outside of the context of a comment; perhaps you mistakenly placed it outside of an ‘MTComments’ container?
see what i mean? when i previewed my comment, that’s what i got, and i just glazed over and thought “hmmmmm, would i rather have dark chocolate or milk chocolate?”

  7. Oops. Sorry about that error, Tammy. I think I have it fixed now. Okay, so maybe I overstated the eBay thing. In fact, I think I have sold something on there before. But you have to admit, it is kind of impersonal.
