Machiavelli Rice

Oh my. Condi “Machiavelli” Rice made it through the first round of confirmation hearings, as expected. Here’s one reponse to a question about Iraq that upset me a bit, as quoted by CNN,

“I know enough about history to stand back and recognize that you judge decisions not in the moment, but how it all adds up,” [Rice] said. “It’s how Iraq turns out that ultimately matters.”

Maybe I’m just cynical, but this looks like a fancy way of saying that the ends justify the means. Still, even by that twisted standard, can we really say that the invasion of Iraq was a good idea?

I think she will do a great job. She handles herself very well. Did you noticed who voted against her?

The ends justifying the means . . . hmmmmm. Now, my father who i adore and trust even sometimes suggests that the A-bomb was rather helpful in ending THAT particular war. and on the home front, i do like that if i threaten to take everything my child loves from them for an evening, it helps get them into bed on time. . . but it’s a bit baffling that she’d say something so easily dissectable (while handling herself well, i agree, dean). i think that she and her bedmates should be better at lying to us, so that we feel safely held in the moral arms of america.
hi dean, nice to see you follow karl’s blog, or the KLOG as i like to call it.
