Changes in Site

The time seemed right to change the site, so that is what I’m doing.

I’m taking it slow, though, beginning with the home page and adapting other pages to the new design as I find the time. So let’s just call this a work in progress.

In keeping with my “process” attitude, I’d love to hear from anyone who has a comment or suggestion for the new look, and I’ll try to incorporate all the good advice, which doesn’t mean, of course, that any advice I don’t incorporate isn’t good advice, but merely that I may not be competent enough or energetic enough to implement it, but, as I said, I’ll try.

The lines are open. Operators are standing by. Leave a comment and let me know how I can improve the home page. As soon I feel good enough about that one, I’ll move on to the other pages, for which you are more than welcome to offer suggestions as well.

I’m from the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” school, and I didn’t think your site was broke, so what’s to fix?

  2. I know what you mean, but I’m not really trying to “fix” anything. I
just thought a little change might do the site some good. And it would
    keep me entertained. :)

I think the new look is brilliant! I agree with Andy that the site was beautiful before, but this is gorgeous too.

I’m amazed at what you can do! I appreciate it that my artwork is included on your website.

Let’s talk sometime about how that will fit in with the new look. Kudos on your adventurous spirit.

  4. Hey Karl…nice to see your creative genius at work once again! You’ve no doubt been inspired by your new iMac :-)

    I
love the look of the new site (fonts and colors are great), but I have
to confess I miss the “spaciousness” of the previous design. This one
feels just a little cramped to me. In particular:

    1. It seems as if your main
div/table is a tad skinny. I have to scroll down a little bit more for
all the information on the page now.
    2. Just a personal preference, but I enjoyed having the main
articles in the center and all the links on the left and right columns.

Just my two cents. Don’t stop those creative juices!

    Hi…

You must have posted this late last night and then made the changes, as I was online about midnight and the old look was still in tact.

I agree with Michael and your dad: I liked the less-clausterphobic feel of the old look, and I didn’t think you had to change a thing.  I would rather you spend the time on the actual posts( like updated pics of your fabulous family) rather than the appearance of the site.

That said, you know that I tend not to do so well with change, and despite my resistance, I am not too stubborn to

concede that the colors and font of the new look are appealing.

Michael, points well taken. I tweaked the layout a bit more so that
the content div is now “elastic,” stretching its width with your
browser. I also switched the colors of the two nav columns, which, I
hope, will open up the display. After all, I wouldn’t want to
contribute to anyone’s sense of claustrophobia. I really appreciate
your input. Still, I’m keeping the main content on the left for now.
The English Rules banner at the top is still in flux. Sara doesn’t like
it, so I’ll probably play with something more photographic when I have
    some time.

  7. StealthKDDazzler says:

I am so accustomed to reading webpages with nav columns arrayed on the left of my screen that there’s a sense of aesthetic discord as I look at the new English Rules.  But that’s not a plea for change back to the old design; such discord can be good for me.

    Cheers
