tearful or given to weeping
I just read an article that described Rainer Maria Rilke as, among other things, lachrymose.
I am mortified!! All these years I have been using that word incorrectly as describing persons with sloping eyebrows. Thanks for setting me straight.
Lacrimosa is a famous part of the Mozart’s Requiem, which implies lamenting over the deceased.
‘lacrimare’ is to cry in Latin.
