propitious

Presenting favorable circumstances; auspicious; being of good omen.

Does anybody use this word anymore? I don’t know. It was in an SAT vocabulary word list, I vaguely recall, and it’s also in the fabulous new novel Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, which emulates the style of a 19th century novel, but other than those two instances I don’t think I’ve seen this word anywhere. It’s kind of a shame. Nice word.
