What's a Feed Reader?
A feed reader, or RSS reader, or News Aggregator, is a software program that lets you view updates to all of your favorite weblogs and news sites without having to browse to those sites on the web.
Feed Reader Options
- Web-based readers: Bloglines is the front-runner in this category, but I've heard good things about the upstart Rojo, as well. MyYahoo and MyMSN also pull in RSS feeds now, and they have nice, simple, albeit less flexible interfaces.
- Windows software: My favorite is the free SharpReader, but there are dozens of others that might fit the bill, depending on what you're looking for. FeedDemon is slick and beautiful, but pricey. RSS Bandit is feature-rich, but wonky.
- Mac OSX software: The perennial favorite on the Mac is NetNewswire, which comes in a free "lite" version, too.
