Announcing the new English Rules Writing Guide!
It's just a wee little project I decided to put together after looking at my site's referral log and realizing that most of the people who visit English Rules are probably going away empty handed. A lot of people are looking for help with English "grammer," so that's what I'm going to give them.
I only have a few entries in there so far, but I'm hoping to build it up without losing too much more sleep. What I really hope is that people who visit will fill out the form to Ask the English Master. (I'm not a real English master; I just have a master's degree in English.) If any of you want to play "stump the chump," feel free to put in a question of your own.
Also, I'm looking for a volunteer to help me out with it a bit, maybe by posting an entry or two every once in a while. If you're a grammar geek and think this might be fun, let me know, and we can chat about setting you up with an author account on this thing.

Thanks for the question, Dad. Not all style guides agree on this one, but I'll try to address the thorny issue of possession in an upcoming Writing Guide entry.

Mrs. Tutor, I will gladly explain the which/that rule on the English Rules Writing Guide. I have a few others I need to get to first, but I should have something up within a few days.

how much time is required to get grammer proficiency minimum and maximum for an average student

Akber, there are too many variables for me to determine how look long it would take an "average student" to acquire grammar proficiency. I'm not even sure what you would consider an "average" student. How motivated is this student? What age? How much English study has the student had in the past? How many other languages does the student know? If you're interested in learning English as a foreign languages, there are many websites that provide help or point to offline resources. I am impressed that after 24 hours none of your correspondents expresses a need for help in English grammar. What a bunch of smart people!!
Well, I can always use some help, especially at these prices, and especially if you include punctuation in the broad definition of "grammar". Give me a treatise on how to handle the possessive of proper and common nouns which end in 's'. Sometimes, just an apostrophe seems right, but sometimes " 's " seems right.
